III. What is the Survivor diversity news?’Survivor’ Season 45
In June 2019, a group of Black Survivor alumni, inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement and discussions on anti-racism, came together to share their experiences and challenges as minorities on the show. This group, known as the “Soul Survivors Organization,” comprised contestants from seasons 1 to 40. They released a widely-circulated petition urging the show to implement several anti-racist initiatives.
The petition called for the casting of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) individuals to make up at least 30% of each cast, increased representation of BIPOC individuals among the show’s crew, and active support for the cast, including providing mental health resources after the season.
Jeff Probst, the host of Survivor, acknowledged the impact of the petition and the ongoing societal changes, stating that it is essential for the show to respond and ensure that it reflects the cultural dynamics and behaviors of its audience. He emphasized that the evolving landscape would shape the future of Survivor.
In response to the initiative, CBS announced in November 2020 that it would be implementing new rules for its unscripted shows, with a focus on enhancing diversity. This included a requirement for at least 50% of the cast on every show to be BIPOC contestants and allocating a minimum of 25% of the annual unscripted development budget to projects created or co-created by BIPOC producers.
These changes were made to address the concerns raised by the Soul Survivors Organization and to promote greater inclusivity and representation within the Survivor franchise and other unscripted shows on CBS.
IV. More to come from the new season of Survivor
The producers of Survivor have yet to unveil the theme for the upcoming season, but additional details are expected to be released in the coming weeks. Normally, host Jeff Probst announces the theme and provides teaser footage during the finale of preceding seasons.
